Machine vs. handcrafted translations

Do you secretly think, why spend money on a translation job, especially as there are some online translation tools that may be handy? Could this work?
Well, machine translations are very useful if you simply need a rough idea what the text is about.

However, although today’s machine translation algorithms have been refined, they can never replace a translation by hand. Logically, a machine translation does not have the finesse necessary to deliver a natural sounding text as it does neither include the cultural background nor the sub-textual meanings of words or phrases.

Of course, it would be possible to take a machine translation as a basis and work on it to shuffle words and phrases around so that it sounds pretty good. But then you will never have a translation that is unique and will let you stand out from the crowd.
